Mauritius Beaches
Ah, the beach holiday, it's a classic. Laying back on a sun lounger,
slathered in suntan lotion, crisp white sand surrounding you and the
gentle sound of waves crashing on the shore. For the majority of
people, the beach holiday is holidaying at it's best. And when it comes
to unspoilt natural beauty, nowhere on earth does beaches quite like
Mauritius.
Author Mark Twain said of Mauritius's beaches: “God first made
Mauritius, and from it, He created Paradise.” Although a patron of the
snappy, memorable quote, when referring to Mauritius beaches in this
way, Twain had a point.
Mauritius beaches offer everything a visitor could possibly desire.
Located just north of the Tropic of Capricorn in the Indian Ocean,
Mauritius has some of the most stunning scenery available to man.
What's more, the island is surrounded almost entirely by natural coral
reefs, making it a paradise for anyone who has ever dreamed of
snorkeling or scuba diving.
Firstly,
Mauritius caters to the surfer. On the southwest shore of the island
sits the Bay of Tamarin, which is aided by the topography of the
island. It can produce spectacular waves and breakers, offering any
surfer a chance of a lifetime, as they indulge their passion watched by
nearby volcanic formations. The Bay of Tamarin and it's nearby
amenities are designed with surfers and body boarders in mind, making
it one of the more affordable areas of the island.
For a little more of the Mauritius so frequently featured on postcards
and travel programs, there is Belle Mare. As “belle” means beautiful,
you should immediately have some idea of what is on offer here.
Although Belle Mare has been the subject of intense urbanization, much
of it has been left unspoiled. It still boasts beautiful soft, fine
grained powder and is almost clear in color. The lagoon is a sumptuous
deluxe of blue beauty, stretching as far as the eye can see. Basking in
the helpful shade of the hundreds of surrounding palm trees, Belle Mare
is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and is located on
the east coast of the island.
The last must-see of the Mauritius beaches is not actually on the main
island itself. A very short boat ride takes you to another island in
the Mauritian republic, named Cerfs, just off the east coast of the
mainland. Here, there is everything one could dream of.
To begin, there is the sand. It's the finest you'll possibly ever
experience, a clear dusting across the shore. The views out on to the
Indian Ocean are breathtaking, endless clear blue water with no debris
or rubbish in site. This is an unspoiled haven, and well worth the
short ride from Pointe Maurice on the mainland. The beach is known as
Ile aux Cerfs, and has a full range of sports and leisure activities
just to compliment the enchanting landscape.
Wherever you go in Mauritius, however, beautiful clear sand beaches are
just ready to greet you. For any lover of the beach holiday, look no
further than the tiny island nation sitting pretty in the middle of the
Indian Ocean.
